Your meter and your property have reference numbers which help us to make sure we’re supplying energy to the right place. You have two types of references which help us to do this.
We will sometimes refer to your property as a meter point, and your MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) and MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) are the references we use to identify one meter point from another. Your MPAN refers to your electricity supply and your MPRN as your gas supply.
The setup of some people’s energy supply means you may find you have more than one MPAN or MPRN. This should be clearly detailed on your energy bills.
Your MPAN is a 21 digit number and can usually be found on your energy bill. Often, you’ll see it displayed like this:
Your MPAN tells us a number of things about your meter and the energy we’re supplying to your property:
Your MPRN will be between 6 and 10 numbers long and is a unique number which identifies your gas meter point. Your MPRN can be found on your energy bill.
Most electrical devices in your home will have a serial number and the same applies to your meters. Your meter’s serial number is unique and will usually be found clearly displayed on the front of your gas or electricity meters. When you join us as a customer, we’re sent your meter serial numbers to help us to make sure we’re supplying the right meters.
If you have any questions about your meter or your reference numbers, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Details of how you can contact us can be found here.
